KLN has a single manufacturing facility, located in San Antonio, Texas; it is specifically consolidated and designed to accommodate high volume fabrication of standard and semi-custom contract furniture and casegoods of high quality for Colleges and Universities, Military Quarters, and Job Corps Centers, or wherever high quality, long life, low maintenance furniture is essential. The facility includes: A clean and orderly masonry manufacturing facility of over 170,000 square feet capable of producing substantial projects on a timely basis. The state-of-the-art Salvagnini S4/P4 flexible manufacturing system and Trumpf CNC equipment give KLN the most technologically advanced solution for punching, shearing and forming sheet metal. The S4/P4 system guarantees maximum precision (to 0.003" tolerance) and process repeatability to facilitate high quality production of metal fabrications from 10 to 24 gauges, specially laid out and designed to produce high volume, specialized furniture for multi-person housing. The most modern and the largest Powder Coating facility in South Texas for finishing, including automatic multi-stage pre-paint cleaning process; phosphatizing; dry off ovens and automatic electrostatic application of finish coatings. Coatings are cured in an automatic continuous type bake oven with exposure up to 500 degrees F, when required, for as long as may be recommended by the coating manufacturer. A high production, automated high pressure laminating facility and fully equipped 3D Thermolaminator capable of producing top quality high pressure laminate plastic panels with wood edging, self edging, PVC edging and T-molding for doors, drawer heads, desk tops, etc. in various cores and thicknesses up to 3". Products are carefully packaged, handled, stored and delivered as furniture, and/or packed in customers' containers at the factory for overseas shipments.
A key value for KLN is serving the community, including acting responsibly. In this vein, KLN has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to Environmental improvement. In full cooperation with the Texas Council on Environmental Quality, KLN purchased a previously contaminated refinery site, opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, eliminated gasoline forklifts, and reduced VOC output (a key contributor to smog) by 100%. This innovative, cooperative approach has put 40 acres of previously untouchable property back into highly productive and taxable economic use for Texas. In 2000, KLN was awarded the Environmental Excellence Award from the San Antonio Water System for water conservation. In compliance with Executive Order 13101 regarding the Federal Government's use of recycled products and environmentally preferable products, KLN has been declared "GREEN" by GSA and is listed in GSA's Environmental Products and Services Guide. KLN is the only furniture manufacturer on federal GSA schedules that has earned the environmental designation.
